Jeremiah J. O’Connell is the Chief Executive Officer and senior principal of Jeremiah Associates LLC. Established in 1985, Jeremiah Associates (JA) provides consulting, content development and training services to leading investment firms, broker/dealers, banks, insurance companies, and technology application providers. Based in New York City, their practice expertise includes domestic and global markets.
Prior to founding Jeremiah Associates, Jerry has held senior Business and Technology positions at Bear Stearns, Daiwa Securities America, JJ Kenny and a predecessor firm of Smith Barney.
Jerry is an accomplished professional with comprehensive experience in banking and securities industry practices and the associated information technology support functions. His expertise includes trading, securities processing and asset servicing activities. He has supported investor and broker clients on projects including globalization, the move to TD+3, same day funds, and business expansion.
As a result of industry initiatives, Mr. O’Connell’s current focus has been on transfer of knowledge of securities industry practices including; electronic trading, extended trading hours, payment system automation and the application of Straight Through Processing techniques in trade and settlement transaction processing. Mr. O’Connell provides analysis and opinions as an industry expert in banking and brokerage rules & regulations and industry practices. He has testified before Congress and has been on the staff of New York University, New York Institute of Finance and Securities Operations Forum where he has presented educational seminars on securitization, global capital markets, information technology issues, and trade and global trading and clearance and custody organizational issues.
Jerry is a frequent speaker at industry seminars, addressing topical issues facing the global securities industry. He has co-authored the Handbook of Global Securities Processing published in March 2003. This reference guide is intended for investors, investment banks, commercial and private banks, custodians, and industry service organizations.
